Stage Visual for Commercial Vehicles

On the road to realizing Vision Zero:

smart sensors for commercial vehicles

Accidents involving commercial vehicles are often particularly serious. Sensors from Bosch developed specially for heavy commercial vehicles like the multi purpose camera, front radar sensor, and corner radar sensor provide the basis for driver assistance functions that enhance safety, efficiency, comfort, and convenience for these kinds of vehicles. Bosch thus not only paves the way for systems that exceed the statutory requirements in the EU and globally, but also lays the foundation for zero-accident mobility.

Driver assistance systems – for more safety in freight transport

Intelligent sensors from Bosch exceed the legal requirements for driver assistance systems.

What radar and camera can already do today

Front radar sensor for precise distance measurement

Bosch is energizing commercial vehicles

The front radar offers a long range, optimal angular resolution, and a wide angle of beam spread. With its cutting-edge modulation technique, it can accurately identify positions, relative speeds, and directions of travel even for multiple objects.

The multi purpose camera that understands its surroundings

Personalized mobility

The multi purpose camera reliably recognizes and classifies objects and structures like vehicles, people and road signs using classic image processing algorithms and combines them with AI methods. With this, it provides the basis for a comprehensive scene interpretation.

Corner radar sensors see the big picture

Bosch enables commercial vehicle connectivity

The corner radar quickly and accurately detects other road users like vehicles and pedestrians, even in tricky situations and congested traffic. This makes it the ideal solution for a blind spot detection, thus offering additional safety in complex driving and traffic situations.

Camera-based driver assistance systems

Camera-based driver assistance systems

The latest third-generation multi purpose camera from Bosch plays a key role in the implementation of new driver assistance functions for increased safety in heavy goods traffic. With its robust scene interpretation capabilities based on artificial intelligence and an algorithmic multipath approach, it provides a solid sensor data basis for safety and convenience functions like road sign information, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist.

Road sign information (see image above) identifies traffic signs on road signs, variable message signs, and traffic sign gantries.

Thanks to the innovative LED light flicker mitigation (LFM) technology, the system from Bosch is able to capture the information displayed on LED variable message signs.

Bosch camera systems for assistance functions have already proven their value in the passenger car segment. Using this technological expertise, Bosch has specially developed the commercial vehicle system to meet the demanding requirements of heavy goods transportation. More about road sign information

Active lane keeping functions

If the distance between the boundary of the road and the vehicle falls below a minimum value, lane keeping assist counteracts this with precise steering interventions. The emergency lane keeping will even actively steer the vehicle back into the lane if it is about to drift off the drivable surface at the edge of the road. And lane centering assist lightens the driver’s workload by keeping the vehicle centered on the current lane, thus preventing a critical departure from the roadway in the first place.

Lane departure warning

If the vehicle crosses the lane marking and threatens to leave the lane unintentionally, the lane departure warning function provides the driver with a visual, acoustic, and/or haptic alert, e.g. by vibrating the steering wheel. This ensures the driver is given an early warning about the lane deviation and can make corrections to the steering. If, however, the driver activates the turn signal in order to change lanes or turn off the road, the function will not issue an alert.

Radar-based driver assistance systems

Radar-based driver assistance systems

The front and corner radar sensors specially developed by Bosch for heavy commercial vehicles enable precise, fast, and robust object recognition and tracking within a large area of detection. They thus provide the basis for new driver assistance functions that further enhance safety in road traffic, increase efficiency, and lighten the driver’s workload while driving.

Thus, for instance, the blind spot detection (see image above) provides the driver with a visual or acoustic alert to warn about another vehicle alongside the truck in the blind spot. More about blind spot detection

Advanced emergency braking

Advanced emergency braking

In the event of a critical approach to another vehicle, the system warns the driver, assist with braking, and can initiate an advanced emergency braking.

Turn collision warning

Turn collision warning

When turning, the system monitors the space next to the truck, analyzes the direction in which pedestrians or cyclists are moving, and warns of collisions.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC)

Adaptive cruise control (ACC)

ACC maintains the speed, reduces it behind slower vehicles and accelerates when the road is clear. ACC stop & go even regulates to a standstill.

Moving-off information system

Moving-off information system

The system detects objects and people in front of the truck and warns the driver of critical situations when moving off or when performing slow maneuvers.
