Assisted and automated driving requires precise, reliable localization of the vehicle that is available at all times. The vehicle localization system provides a software-based modular solution that can be flexibly integrated into OEMs’ vehicle ECUs (including domain computers). In addition, it offers the possibility of using interfaces to external components for positioning, such as inertial sensor systems, GNSS receivers, and wheel speed sensors.

How the vehicle localization system works

To ensure highly accurate localization, the vehicle localization system uses primarily satellite navigation data. If the connection is disrupted, for example under bridges or in a tunnel, the system can rely on inertial sensors in the vehicle. Yaw-rate and acceleration sensors and the signals from wheel speed sensors are used to precisely track the vehicle’s direction of movement.

How the integrated GNSS correction service works

The GNSS is subject to sources of error such as satellite clock errors and orbital errors, disruptions caused by the ionosphere and troposphere, multipath effects, and receiver errors. The correction service provides correction data for these sources of error using reference stations and a data processing center. The correction data is transmitted through the cloud.
