An efficient glow system is key not only to ensuring a quick engine start but also to optimizing combustion during the warm-up phase, thereby reducing emissions right from the beginning.
Our portfolio includes all core components for a reliable engine start. From the intelligent glow control unit to the innovative ceramic glow plug, all parts are perfectly matched. This system expertise ensures a long service life and contributes significantly to compliance with strict emissions standards.
The glow system consists of glow plugs with ceramic or metal heating elements, a glow control unit and heating software. The electronic glow control unit adapts the heat output of the glow plugs to meet engine requirements. The engine control unit selects the heating functions based on input information such as actuation of the ignition key. The heating temperature is adaptively controlled with reference to other parameters such as the coolant temperature or engine speed. The glow control unit converts these into a signal for the glow plugs. It also performs reliable diagnosis of the glow plugs.
As a result, the temperature at the glow plug is adjusted reliably to the perfect setting under all conditions. A modern glow system not only contributes to ensuring that the engine is able to start in cold and critical situations, but also to reducing HC and CO emissions during the engine warm-up phase. Furthermore, the glow system stabilizes combustion and prevents misfiring as a result. The heating function is also used to assist in the regeneration of the NOx storage catalytic converter and the diesel particulate filter.
