How the cloud-based wrong-way driver warning works
As soon as the vehicle approaches a highway entrance or exit, the system automatically sends the current movement data from the vehicle or smartphone to a cloud, in anonymized form. The current vehicle motion is then compared with the permissible direction of travel, which is stored in an internet-based database. In the event of impermissible deviations, the driver is immediately informed of the incorrect travel direction. The cloud also immediately issues the warning to all connected road users in the danger area. As soon as the driver departs the entrance area, communication with the cloud ceases.
This function is based on regular, anonymized reporting of the vehicle's position to the cloud – a central data center in which data is stored and evaluated via the internet.
