Long and monotonous journeys can be tiring and always demand the driver’s attention. Just a brief moment of inattention can result in the driver inadvertently drifting out of his own lane or miss a vehicle in the blind spot while changing lanes. This is particularly dangerous on highways or motorways. With our lane assistance systems, the driver not only reaches his destination stress-free, they also improve the safety of all road users at the same time. With the help of surroundings sensors and selective intervention in the steering or braking system, Bosch implements functions which keep the driver's vehicle in its lane and therefore prevent accidents or mitigate their consequences.

When the video camera detects that the vehicle is in danger of drifting out of its lane, the lane keeping assist, for example, gently, but noticeably countersteers in vehicles with electric power steering in order to keep the vehicle in the lane. In vehicles without electric power steering, it achieves the same effect by utilizing the electronic stability program to brake individual wheels.
