Bosch is responding to the transformation of the automotive industry with the biggest realignment of its core business in the company’s history. The integrated Mobility business sector has been in place since the beginning of 2024. One of its new features is horizontal responsibility for three areas of future importance: software, semiconductors, and vehicle computers.

Including sales and service partners, Bosch’s global manufacturing, engineering, and sales network covers nearly every country in the world. This translates into short paths, close and flexible cooperation, local solutions, and the effective use of global supply chains. Thanks to its long-standing local presence in the individual countries, Bosch understands the specific requirements and trends of the various markets.

The company was founded by Robert Bosch (1861–1942) in Stuttgart in 1886 as the “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering.” The special ownership structure of Robert Bosch GmbH guarantees the entrepreneurial freedom of the Bosch Group. It forms the basis for future growth and allows the company to safeguard both its future and power of innovation with significant up-front investments.

How long has Bosch Mobility been around?

For more than 130 years, the name “Bosch” has been associated with pioneering technology and groundbreaking inventions that have made history. In 1886, Robert Bosch founded the “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering” in Stuttgart.

It is the root of today's globally active Bosch company and at the same time the birth of today's Bosch Mobility business sector, which has been characterized by innovative strength and social commitment from the very beginning.

We produce locally for local customers in more than 100 plants worldwide and conduct research and development at 68 locations, guaranteeing a high degree of innovation and consistent quality.

Annual Report 2024: In view of the global decline in vehicle production, the Mobility business sector's nominal sales of 55.8 billion euros were 0.7% below the previous year's figure of 56.2 billion euros; adjusted for exchange rate effects, sales increased by 0.2%.

We are reporting EBIT for 2024 of 2.0 billion euros compared to 2.4 billion euros in the previous year. Operating EBIT amounts to EUR 2.1 billion compared to EUR 2.5 billion in the previous year. This results in an operating EBIT margin of 3.8% of sales after 4.4% in the previous year.

More than ever, innovations in cars are being created using bits and bytes. Bosch is responding to this trend towards software-based vehicle development with its independent Bosch Mobility business sector. Within Robert Bosch GmbH, the business sector for the supplier business is managed with its own business responsibility and its own management team. The aim is to be able to serve existing and new customer needs even better and faster with customized solutions from a single source. The management team, which is responsible for Bosch Mobility and all associated automotive business units, includes the Chairman of the Sector Board Dr. Markus Heyn and the other members Andreas Dempf, Volker Schilling, Klaus Mäder, Dr. Mathias Pillin.
