The Electric Power Steering System Servo Unit on a Second Pinion (EPSdp) controls and assists the vehicle steering and offers an excellent steering feel. The new generation of steering control unit (electro motor and electric control unit) provides additional security in case of a failure.

In the EPS dual pinion variant (EPSdp) the torque is transmitted to the rack by a pinion. The electro motor of the servo unit converts the torque via the robust worm gear in a servo torque (servo unit) and transfers it to the rack. A special damping modul is used for an optimal suspension of the torque in every driving situation. Based on this architecture, the servo unit is separated from the sensor unit and enables thereby an optimal use of the available package.
With the new modular built steering control unit (electric control unit with electro motor) the EPS supports also driver assistance functions. It is thereby protected against cyber attacks, software updates are realized with the „over the air“ technology.
