Bosch's modular and scalable end-to-end AI architecture forms the essential foundation for effectively addressing challenges in advanced driver assistance systems, including driving, parking, and safety features. Our AI strategy effectively tackles the complex challenges through a two-stage process.
The first system, “system 1,” the scalable and modular end-to-end AI stack, combines raw data from various sensors such as radar and video solutions to create a holistic understanding of the driving environment. It acts like a skilled driver, reacting quickly to what is happening. The fully AI-driven architecture allows for easy integration of new sensors and algorithms, making the Bosch end-to-end AI stack adaptable to future advancements in sensor technology and AI capabilities.
We enhance our modular end-to-end stack, our system 1, by incorporating generative AI as “system 2.” System 2 adds a second layer of thinking. It uses vision-language-action models (VLAs), a specialized form of generative AI that combines computer vision, natural language processing, and action planning and is powered by real-world knowledge to handle complex situations and make smarter decisions.

With the Bosch ADAS product family, we cover all market segments – from essential safety to premium comfort – and meet rising expectations for higher performance and more human-like driving with innovative AI technologies. Our modular end-to-end AI technology, system 1, provides a powerful backbone across vehicle classes. Unlike monolithic black-box solutions, it balances safety and performance. Architecture-guided training ensures interpretability and control while retaining the advantages of a fully AI-driven system. Building on system 1, advanced GenAI and vision-language-action (VLA) models add real-world knowledge and a new layer of understanding, setting benchmarks for more human-like driving behavior.
Foundation models enable context-sensitive perception
Today’s automotive AI has limited perception: environments are typically represented by boxes and lines without deeper context. Foundation models, pre-trained on large data sets, enable context-sensitive perception and improve understanding of unusual situations.
Vision-language-action models (VLAs) go beyond reactive driving by combining scene interpretation, contextual awareness, and world knowledge. Leveraging multisource data with foundation model insights, they provide a nuanced understanding that enhances ADAS decision-making. This allows more precise, context-aware actions and a significantly improved user experience. For example, if a ball rolls into the street, the system can anticipate that a child may follow. Such contextual understanding enables smarter, proactive driver assistance for safer, more comfortable driving.
